HOW the Smarter Way to Play Works

Previously we have looked at WHAT the Smarter Way to Play is and WHY it improves your chances of lottery wins through increased entries at a lower cost.

Now let's look at examples of syndicates playing in the UK Lotto and EuroMillions and actual wins.

We know we have to match 6 numbers to win the UK Lotto jackpot.
There are then prizes for matching 5 numbers plus the bonus number all the way down to 3 numbers.

The first thing being in an e-lottery syndicate does is guarantee matching the Bonus ball.

There are 49 members in a syndicate and 49 UK Lottos balls (numbers) to choose from so each member represents a unique line of 5 random balls plus all combinations of the bonus number, allowing for the jackpot win and unique combinations such as a 2-ball win.

The Euromillions is similar except that there are 39 main balls and two lucky star balls.
EuroMillions syndicates therefore have less members, but guarantee to match both lucky star numbers.

A busy week

So, having caught up after a short break I just posted the update to Derren Brown's lottery prediction event.
It got massive publicity and generated lots of theories of how he successfully predicted 5 of the main UK Lotto numbers.

In the meantime another couple of draws took place in the UK and EuroMillions draws.
Looks like Smarter Lottos had a couple of wins.
Nice to know, when you haven't had to worry about buying tickets and remembering numbers.

Derren Brown reveals (maybe) how he won the lottery.

On Friday 11th September, 2 days after winning the UK Lotto by matching 5 numbers, Derren Brown's follow-up Event show revealed how he did it through a combination of general human pschychology, non-transitive game theory and use of the power of The Wisdom of Crowds (or he bypassed some of the strictest security and admitted it!!).

If it was the first case then can it be repeated.....we shall see.......

Derren Brown is an English magician, illusionist, mentalist, and skeptic who regularly baffles audiences with feats of mental skill.

During Wednesday's UK Lotto draw a 10-minute TV special showed his prediction of balls in plain view whilst the UK Lotto draw was shown on a TV in the same room (viewers could prove this was live by switching channels between Derren's show and the channel showing the live draw). Immediately after the draw Derren showed the list of drawn numbers as he revealed his prediction, for a perfect match of 5 numbers.
If he had bought a ticket with these numbers he would have had a share of almost £500,000 (300+ winners shared about £1400 each).

OK, so first let's discuss what the Smarter Way to Play is.

Do syndicates really work?

Well, The National Lottery who run the UK Lotto and EuroMillions in the UK have stated that 1 in 4 of all lottery wins are by syndicates.

Back to Basics

The lottery is exactly what it is… a lottery, a complete game of chance.
The odds of winning a lottery are really slim.
The odds of winning the UK Lotto are about 1 in 14 million and the EuroMillions about 1 in 76 million.

So, what does playing in a syndicate do?

The idea of a syndicate is to shorten these rather long odds. How much the odds are shortened depends on the system that the syndicate employs. Should they just buy more random numbers or should they use some kind of mathematical system to reduce the odds?

The number of people in a syndicate is an important consideration as it will have two impacts:
1. More people means it is more likely to win
2. More people means the shared will reduce the amount of winnings each member receives.

Another important consideration in running syndicates is who actually runs it!
This really is critical as should member numbers deplete then someone has to take responsibility for replacing those players. Also, the manager will have to be absolutely certain that the lottery entries are placed correctly and at the correct time. Getting this wrong could potentially wreak havoc!
Imagine watching your numbers finally come in only to find out that the syndicate manager forgot to put the entries in or got them wrong!

The question of whether syndicates work or not is therefore answered easily, of course they work, in terms of reducing the odds of a win or even prizes, the more important choice is which syndicate to join.

I believe the best recommendation is to choose an ‘automated’ syndicate, a syndicate that is managed by computer systems which handle everything, from payments to play in the syndicate, distribution of winnings and managing the syndicate system in a clearly defined mathematical way. That way all of the syndicate members know exactly what they are paying for and what they are getting.

Having a syndicate system available online would mean that all members can check their numbers, their winnings and their payments. A syndicate system like this is bound to work!
